5000 Facts About Newfoundland 1921-22 By H M Mosdell
What it is
-
Full title: 5,000 Facts About Newfoundland by Harris Munden Mosdell.
-
Author: Harris M. Mosdell (1883‑1944), a journalist, physician, and political figure in Newfoundland.
-
Date: Published 1922 (some editions say 1921‑22).
-
Format / Size: ~ 54 pages in one listing (for the 1922 edition).
What it Contains / Themes
According to descriptions:
-
It’s a compilation of facts about all aspects of Newfoundland: historical, political, religious, agricultural, geographical, cultural.
-
It includes government revenues, expenditures, and projections for future years (for example, for 1921‑22, 1922‑23).
-
Also includes advertisements and public notices.
-
It’s arranged as a collection of many small facts, often concise items rather than long narratives. The facts are sorted by topic / category alphabetically in many cases.
Significance
-
The book is useful as a snapshot of Newfoundland at the early 1920s, showing what items were considered important enough to be collated as “facts” — reflecting what was known, valued, or reported at the time.
-
It’s helpful for historical researchers looking for statistical data or smaller local facts (population, fiscal figures, social, religious institutions, agriculture, etc.) from that era.
-
As the author was a journalist and politician, the compilation may also reflect political / social perspectives or priorities of the era.
